PORTA ROMANA
HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
It stands in the S. Giorgio district. It gives access to the town to those coming from the Cimini family; it is the only survivor of the three gates that in the eighteenth century connected the town of Soriano to the main communication routes. It was built to delimit the urban boundaries, probably in 1721 at the behest of Carlo Albani, lord of Soriano, as we learn from the inscription that surmounts it. It constitutes a faithful copy, with the exception of the material used, of the Roman Porta Pia. Massive masonry construction, it is enriched with peperino ornaments to decorate the pediment, such as: the Chigi coat of arms, a plaque, a festoon and a mask. The inside of the door, seen from the town, is quite simple.
