DESCRIPTION
Beech forest in the Cimino
Mount Cimino (1053 m asl.), With its centuries-old and shady chestnut groves, the beautiful and majestic beech forest that surrounds it is the ideal destination for those who love nature and tranquility, but also for those who want to dedicate themselves to long excursions or to simple walks on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike.
In recent years, through the meticulous work of the La Sapienza University of Rome, an important area of archaeological interest has come to light on Monte Cimino. Exactly on the summit plateau, in correspondence with the summit of Mount Cimino (1053 above sea level), is the settlement of Mount Cimino, of particular importance in the Tuscia area in the centuries around 1000 BC. The site retains some wall structures that were probably built in the final Bronze Age (ca 1150 -950 BC) and subsequently reused by the Etruscans, still preserved in height for many meters. In addition to the importance of archaeological and historical data, the excavations of Monte Cimino constitute an extraordinary opportunity for cultural and tourist enhancement of the place, already known for its splendid beech forest and for its geological remains. Indeed, the combination of nature and culture represents one of the major attractions for large sectors of the public in search of new opportunities for knowledge, which in this case would be an innovative opportunity to enhance exceptional testimonies of 3000 years ago in a naturalistic setting of great interest and charm.
