CHURCH OF SAN NICOLA DI BARI (CATHEDRAL)

The Cathedral dedicated to San Nicola di Bari, stands on the main square of Soriano. It was built in the neoclassical style at the end of the eighteenth century on a project by Giulio Camporese, replacing the parish church of Sant’Eutizio which, due to its modest size, was insufficient to accommodate the number of faithful. At the time of its construction, two pre-existing religious buildings were demolished and ground leveling works carried out.

Soriano nel Cimino | Chiesa dell’Orfanotrofio

CHURCH OF THE ORPHANOPHY

The church, dedicated to the Madonna, was annexed to the women’s orphanage. The oratory was part of the home of the founder of the Eutizio Pace institute, who, in 1774, gave life to the orphanage by expanding the structure with the annexation of other rooms.

CHURCH OF MADONNA DELLE GRAZIE

The visit to the ancient village of Chia begins in the Renaissance part of the town and more precisely from Piazza Garibaldi where the Madonna delle Grazie Church is located on the left, begun in 1617 as attested in the epigraph on the portal architrave.

The church of Sant’Eutizio with the adjoining convent, a complex entrusted to the Passionist Fathers, stands on the immediate outskirts of Soriano and is part of the Parish of St. Paul of the Cross.

CHURCH OF SANT’EUTIZIO

The church, dedicated to St. Eutizio, the primitive cathedral of Soriano, is located inside the town, in the ancient district of the fortress. Built in the medieval period, it underwent numerous changes in the Renaissance period, but its current appearance is due to the Albani, who had the building renovated around 1718.

The Church of the Madonna del Poggio stands at the foot of the hill on which the castle stands; as far as it is, compared to Soriano, on a lowland, it can nevertheless be considered located on a hillock, in relation to the underlying nature that slopes downstream.

CHIESA DI SANT’AGOSTINO (detta della SS. Trinità)

CHURCH OF SANT’AGOSTINO (known as the Holy Trinity)

The Church of SS. Trinità, better known as Sant’Agostino, stands next to the town hall. Executed between 1765 and 1776 on a project by Nicola Fagioli, in place of a pre-existing building dedicated to S. Vincenzo, following the Madonna della SS. Trinity, officiated by the Augustinians, was consecrated in 1818.

Soriano nel Cimino | Chiesa di Sant’Antonio

CHURCH OF SANT’ANTONIO

The small church, dedicated to Sant’Antonio, dating back to the mid-seventeenth century, stands in via S. Maria. The building has undergone various alterations in different eras: the facade was rebuilt in the 1930s based on a project by Angelo Santocchi. The bell tower, leaning against the church, in the past was equipped with a spire, which has now fallen for several years.

CHURCH OF MERCY (Chiesa della Misericordia)

Erected in the Rione della Rocca, it is the oldest church in the village of Soriano, as evidenced by medieval wall remains, with narrow single-lancet arched windows, still evident, on the right wall of the building. In the Renaissance period it underwent substantial changes, a period in which the two portals were built: one on the facade, the other on the left side.

CHURCH OF SAN GIORGIO

The church of San Giorgio rises outside the town. Precious example of Romanesque architecture, it was built in different phases, between the 10th and 12th centuries; different workers worked there including the Lombard. The building, in peperino stone, is characterized by a rectangular plan. A plaque on the side of the church remembers the figure of Ludovico Chigi Albani, prince of Soriano.
