HISTORY AND DESCRIPTION
Near the main square of Soriano, at the end of the short Via Santa Maria, is the monumental Fountain of the Madruzzo, dating back to the 16th century and dedicated to Cardinal Cristoforo Madruzzo, bishop of Trento and Bressanone. The contrast created by the combination of peperino, which recurs in the architectural and decorative elements, with the pink paint that covers the source is interesting. The fountain is characterized by lateral ends decorated with ashlar; below, a stone basin collects water from three masks positioned in the center of the architectural complex. On the sides there are two pilasters supporting a pediment on which is placed a plaque bearing the inscription “CHRISTOPHORO MADRVTIO EPO CARDINALI TRIDEN: ET BRIXIN: PRINCE PRINCIPAL”. Above the Madruzzo coat of arms dominates.
