MONTE CIMINO ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA

In the immediate vicinity of Soriano nel Cimino it is possible to immerse yourself in suggestive traking in nature where art and history blend in a single solution with nature itself. On the summit plateau, in correspondence with the summit of Mount Cimino (1053 asl), is the settlement of Mount Cimino, of particular importance in the Tuscia area in the centuries around 1000 BC. The site retains some wall structures that were probably built in the final Bronze Age (ca 1150 -950 BC).

ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA OF MALANO

The so-called Selva di Malano and the contiguous localities Sterpeta and Poggiarello constitute the northernmost part of the territory of Soriano, located at the extreme offshoots of the Cimini. Here there are scattered many remains of villages and necropolis of the Etruscan Roman period; but, more particularly, the Ancients used here many of the countless large volcanic boulders scattered on the ground, working them for the purposes inherent in their practices of life, burial and worship.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA OF CORVIANO

In the extreme northern sector of the territory of Soriano, numerous villages developed in ancient times, which, in Roman times, were connected to each other by a stretch of the important Via Ferentiensis (proceeding from Ferentum towards Falerii Novi) and by its branches locals. Some of these villages remained alive even in the Middle Ages. Among the areas that present a greater amount of archaeological emergencies is the one in which the Corviano settlement was built, located on a wooded plateau of volcanic rock.

FOSSO DEL MANDRIONE E VALLE OSCURA

The Fosso del Mandrione, surrounded by the Bosco di Valle Oscura, originates from a spring that flows in an area of great historical, archaeological and naturalistic value in the Soriano area. The name “Mandrione” derives from the word “herd” and indicates a landscape of herds.
